Recent advances in trace mineral deficiencies and their control

چکیده

The study of trace element metabolism has intensified in the last 20 years due mainly to the availability of highly purified diets and to the development of sophisticated instrumentation capable of detecting minute amounts of elements in tissues and feeds. Since 1957, Se, Cr, Sn, V, F, Si and Ni have been isolated as essential nutrients for animal metabolism (Schwartz 1974). The recommended requirements for established trace elements have also changed. It is now recognised that the Zn requirements of Zn for chicks is greater than that originally proposed by ARC (1963). Preston and Willis (1974) have also suggested that the Zn requirements of cattle may be lower than initially proposed. It is also clear that precise requirement for many trace elements has not yet been determined, as shown by .the absence of recommendations for bin, I, Cu, Zn, MO and Se in laying poultry. (See ARC, 1963 and NRC).

Trace Mineral Requirements for Dairy Cattle

A host of nutrients are needed by cattle to support functions associated with life, and to grow, reproduce, and nourish their offspring (i.e., produce milk). A vast amount of resources have been expended to quantify the amounts of specific nutrients needed to perform these function so that economically efficient diets can be formulated. Feeding diets that provide adequate, but not excessive, am...

The Influence of Mineral Deficiencies on Genetic Improvement Programs

Deficiencies of phosphorus, copper, cobalt and selenium are the main mineral deficiencies in southeastern Australia that are likely to affect lactation, growth, carcass composition and wool production of grazing livestock being compared in genetic improvement programs. Genetic variation in mineral nutrition has been recognized from differences in the incidence of mineral disorders between breed...

Copper Antagonists in Cattle Nutrition

2. Secondary mineral deficiencies are by far the most common of the two. Secondary deficiencies are derived from the consumption of one or more mineral antagonists that interfere with the normal metabolism of another mineral. A simple mineral evaluation of a feedstuff may suggest that adequate trace mineral concentrations are present; however, the presence of a mineral antagonist will decrease ...

The New Progresses in Zn Requirements of Poultry

There were no considerable up to date on the trace element requirements of commercial poultry in recent years in despite of the progress in their performance traits. One of the more prevalent problems in modern broiler production system which could be attributed to the trace mineral inadequacy is skeletal disorders. Zinc, is an essential trace element which acts as a co-factor in several metalo...
